When 2016 began, I thought it would be great to interview someone who really knew what it was like to live in the Caribbean on their sailboat.
Now we’re here at the end of 2016 celebrating another year of blogging, and blogging post goodness.
I also wanted to let everyone know how much I’ve enjoyed working with them this year for the blog and the book (which will be published imminently!): Yorgos Dumas, Claudia Myatt, Oliver Messas, Lisa Chapin, Neil Hawkesford, Tucker Bradford, all the many-many people that helped translate phrases for sailors into nearly 20 languages. Teena Clipston, too, for sharing her amazing story with us! Thank you so much, guys. I really mean it!
So here I am, rounding up my most popular stories of the year for you to enjoy all in one place. Scroll to the bottom for a titbit of news about what’s going to be happening in 2017.
How Much it Costs to Live on Your Sailboat in the Caribbean
In this post, I explored Lisa Chapin’s lengthy experience cruising in the Caribbean. Find out how much it really costs to live on your sailboat in the Caribbean if you haven’t already. I furiously scribbled down what you’ll be spending those dollars on, the setup luxuries you might want to indulge in before you get going and how to fund that Caribbean lifestyle while you travel. Check it out here:
The Bicycle of the Seas; Cool Concept!…..but would you pay $2,500.00 for one?
We got so much love for this post because it would be so frickin cool to cycle on the sea (right?!)! This little post is all about these rather expensive contraptions. I want one so much.
The New Magicsail by Beneteau May Revolutionize Sailing Forever
Magic sail? Haha, I know why you guys enjoyed this one so much. It’s because you could be sailing while reading a book or sleeping all day, almost. Right? Safe, attractive and easy. You betcha! This was our second most popular video post of the year. Thanks for the support, as always.
Mummified Body Of Explorer Found Sitting At Desk On Drifting Yacht
This story about a sailor who disappeared and then turned up 7 years later, mummified in his boat was certainly an interesting one!
Expert Yacht Broker Gary Fretz Shows Us Why The Lagoon 440 Is The Best Cruising Catamaran In The World
As controversial as it is, I’m a catamaran man. In this video, Gary Fretz talks about how the design allows you to sail around the world for just a few hundred dollars in you’re sailing most of the time. I’m not sure whether I like the 550 or the 440 more. What about you?
Somali Pirates Make Fatal Choice
I’m sorry, but I hate pirates, and regularly imagine a wonderful world without them. So these kinds of videos really do it for me. And it seems they do it for you, too. Enjoy, whether this is the first or second time you’ve watched this 🙂
Are Sailboats Too Small to Live On?
Noooo! Unless you stay inside the whole time! Swim, and you’ll knock any claustrophobia right out of the water (or into the water!). However, it’s best to check, isn’t it. In this video, Teresa Carey explains why sailboats are not too small to live on.
How to Travel the World on Sailboats as Crew, Part 1
I was so happy when nearly 200 people linked to this post. I published it towards the end of this crazy year, 2016, with dreams of getting up, packing my bags, and crewing around the world. This post tell you how it’s done.
2017! You’re going to see some awesome changes on the blog this year coming. It’s days away, and I can’t wait to start showing you the new stuff I have planned!
I’m a bit of a ball breaker, though, because I’m not going to tell you everything that’s going to happen very soon, because I want it to be a surprise! All I can say is that my book will be on Amazon in the next couple of months, and I’m going to be sending you more content that you like and read.
I hope you have a wonderful New Year. All the best!!
