Sailing News: Teen Adventurer Set to Walk to North Pole

Ben Edwards, a 15-year-old British sailor and adventurer gave a talk last Thursday January 26th about his plans to walk to the magnetic North Pole this summer.

Last year, Ben became the youngest adventurer to ever circumnavigate the North Pole anti-clockwise in one season alongside the British crew lead by explorer David Hempleman-Adams. Check out Ben talking about the trip here.

During his talk, Ben talked about how the crew encountered polar bears, dolphins, hurricanes and the North Lights, and spent time at the Illulissat glacier in Greenland, which is the source of the iceberg like likely sank the Titanic in 1912.

The team now plans to sail up the coast of Greenland this summer and then walk to the magnetic North Pole. Ben will raise money for charity thanks to the trip. He raised nearly $11,000 during his last trip and donated that to’ Addenbrookes Charitable Trust, a registered charity dedicated to supporting innovation in patient care in Ben’s local area.
